Death Note

Netflix Releases The First Trailer For It’s Death Note Adaption

Written by | Anime

Netflix has released the first trailer for its live-action adaptation of Death Note and gave the upcoming movie a release date. You’ll be able to watch Light Turner’s apparently action sequence filled adventure on August 25.

Here is the description of the movie as provided by Netflix:

“A young man comes to possess a supernatural notebook, the Death Note, that grants him the power to kill any person simply by writing down their name on the pages. He then decides to use the notebook to kill criminals and change the world, but an enigmatic detective attempts to track him down and end his reign of terror”

Netflix’s version of Death Note will differ quite a bit from the original anime adaptation. In an attempt to Americanize the franchise, a few of the names have been altered. For example, the Yagami family name has been changed to Turner. Say goodbye to Light Yagami and hello to local cool guy, Light Turner(Nat Wolff) and his father, Jame Turner(Shia Whigham).

Here’s the full cast list:

  • Nat Wolff as Light Turner
  • Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton
  • Keith Stanfield as L
  • Paul Nakauchi as Watari
  • Shea Whigham as James Turner
  • Willem Dafoe as Ryuk (voice)

Enjoy Death Note when it releases later this year. While you wait, try watching the original series in its entirety which is available on Netflix right now.
