Pokémon Go Tries to Win Hearts Back with Valentine’s Day Event

Written by | Gaming, Mobile Apps, Nintendo

Feeling lonely, lost, and full of longing on this week before Valentine’s Day? Pokémon Go is trying to get you to fall back in love with it!

The special promotion comes with numerous features that will run until 11 AM Pacific Standard Time on February 15th!

  • The amount of candy gained from catching, hatching, and transferring Pokémon has been doubled. Buddy Pokémon will also find double the amount of candy during this period. Nothing says “I love you” like extra candy!
  • Rare pink-colored Pokémon can be encountered much more frequently. Clefairy, Clefable, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Exeggcute, Lickitung, Chansey, and Porygon will be much easier to hunt down! The pink baby Pokémon Cleffa, Igglybuff, and Smoochum will also hatch from eggs more often. Adopting a cutie pie could be SO sweet and romantic.
  • Lure modules will last for a crazy long six hours! Perhaps you’ll lure more than just Pokémon!

The Pokémon Go team concluded its announcement by imploring players to “grab your valentine, get out, and explore the world around you,” making the assumption that its players are already in stable, happy relationships that will endure the frigid winter weather.

At the time of publishing, reception to the event and its sugary-sweet promotion has been lukewarm.  It’s almost like fans see through a hollow marketing campaign designed to equate love to commercial goods and services. Perhaps they aren’t ready to dive back into this relationship without greater incentives….

Pokémon Go, you were supposed to release Gen II so I wouldn’t have to think about dying alone this Valentine’s Day!
