In recent news, if many have heard about the new and non-official Pokemon game (Pokemon Uranium), you know that it was a huge success and it branched off its last moments with a successful 1.5m downloads from its website and only until the 9 year development of the fan based game did this game reach its success but it forced the inevitable, the only issue with this, and we at ComedyNGaming really predicted but hoped it didn’t happen was that Nintendo would come down like fierce deities and throw down the legal card, so here’s the story:
Nintendo Lawyers Butt in
Nintendo lawyers have heard about the game scooping up many of their player fan base’s entertainment across the globe and instantly knew their intellectual properties were being reckoned with, with the game having the title ‘Pokemon’ within it, this only meant the end could be near, although we feared very much for this to happen, we get it Nintendo that’s your shit and you want to keep it your shit, I don’t blame you, as the game is really fucking awesome too. I believe if these fans had changed the style more and imposed a very good uniqueness with the game as well as changing its name to another like ‘Pokeguyu’ or whatever you can honestly think of. It’s honestly a waste for the fans who took 9 years in dedication to developing on a franchise they loved so much and have it thrown beneath the mat, but the truth is they should’ve been well aware of the problems that they would’ve been faced with potentially.
What to do now:
Well from what we gathered at CNG on their official statement released yesterday they wrote:
“After receiving more than 1,500,000 downloads of our game, we have been notified of multiple takedown notices from lawyers representing Nintendo of America.
While we have not personally been contacted, it’s clear what their wishes are,
and we respect those wishes deeply.
Therefore, we will no longer provide official download links for the game through our website.
We have no connection to fans who reupload the game files to their own hosts, and we cannot verify that those download links are all legitimate. We advise you to be extremely cautious about downloading the game from unofficial sources.”
Of course, we’ll see many other fans of Pokemon Uranium launch their own mirror links so you can enjoy for yourself to play as well, but it’s still quite a sad time for these developers who contributed toward an effort to finally show Nintendo what it is they actually want in the next installment of Pokemon Games. Unfortunately, this effort came to a conclusion, but in my solemn opinion as someone who loves to throw some balls at some Pokemon (Wrong on every level), I will say that this game by fans will continue to live on further in its years as the franchise expands on Nintendo’s List, or maybe even these fans can get hired like we’ve seen so many companies do in the past, including Blizzard who after telling fans to take down a Vanilla server they had going, came across a huge response of gamers wanting that the servers stay put and put these fans in the position of running it in which they actually decided to do so.
A Message from the Creators:
In the last sentences to their reply against the shutdown of the download links:
“We are blown away by the response this game has received, and we thank you all so much for your outstanding support.
We will continue to provide Pokémon Uranium-related news and updates through our official channels.
You are welcome to continue discussing and sharing content related to the game on our forums and Discord, where there is a very active community.
Thank you for reading, and let’s share the love of Pokémon!”
and with that last sentence, I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been Ginto with ComedyNGaming and keep playing fucking video games you’re gonna like it I promise you! 😉 stay awesome.
