Long time no see gamers! It’s GODmadethunder here with the June 8th, 2016 edition of Way Back Wednesday!! Due to some technical difficulties I wasn’t able to post last week at all, but the problem has been somewhat ratified. (Basically I’m back for good!) This week’s game is Mario Superstar Baseball for the Nintendo GameCube.
One of the perks of being the biggest video game character in the world is that you get to star in your very own sports game…for every single sport. Tennis, basketball, soccer, golf, and heck even go-kart racing. Of course it was only a matter of time until Mario was able to get ahold of America’s favorite pastime, Baseball. Yeah sure everyone loves baseball, but put Mario’s name before it and then everyone will really go insane. As a kid I had so much fun playing this that I forgot about real baseball, I considered Mushroom Kingdom Baseball much higher than the MLB.

Mascots can do no wrong

The map is very interestingly designed..
What makes this game such a interesting Mario sports game is that it has a story mode. Bowser is throwing a baseball tournament to see which team is the strongest, he sends invitation letters to Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong. You choose one of these characters and then you play against every other team, recruiting other players along the way. You wait until your team is strong enough to challenge Bowser and then you face him to see who is the ultimate slugger God. The story mode even has high quality cutscenes that show off what the GameCube can really do.
In exhibition mode you get to choose a captain out of the five from story mode as well as their sidekicks (i.e. Mario and Luigi, Peach and Daisy, Yoshi and Birdo). You choose your team and then play ball. A multiplayer face off can get pretty intense, almost as much as 2k and/or Madden in my opinion.

Better pick who you want before someone else does!!
Mario Superstar Baseball was a staple in my childhood. Just like many of the other Waybacks, the sequel did not live up to original disappointingly. Mario Super Sluggers for the Wii is a motion controls mess and nowhere near as fun as its predecessor.
Mario Superstar Baseball gets a 9 out of 10 from me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m on my way to Ebbets Field. GODmadethunder out.
