The Legend of Zelda is home to many art styles in the gaming industry. The team behind the series has made drastic changes in art direction between each installment of the game, from cel-shaded artwork to realistic with HD shaders or even watermark coloring. For a team of 200, it was almost always about changing up the style of the game in which it was played. The Legend of Zelda: Arts & Artifacts book is the perfect example for this claim.
As a gamer, I’ve spent many years playing through several genres of video games, but not have created a deeper connection with the main protagonist than this one. As an adventure/puzzle questing sort of game it drove attention towards details I wouldn’t usually go look for. Such as the mountains, landscapes, bushes of grass to chop and pots to break. The almost identical rendition of my life, excluding the beauty and pot smashing.
Characters shared deep connections, bonds, and the fondest memories, as a hero named Link. You were sought after to save the land of Hyrule and restore peace to the kingdom. Facing the many challenges that would seem nearly impossible to overcome, it was up to the protagonist. “You” as the hero Link would set forth and maintain the sanity and peace between the land, courageously fighting off the dark forces.
This book manages to bring back all of those memories. Applies Neosporin to the open wounds and slowly heals the pain you’ve been feeling in your normal everyday lives. It was an ironic way of restoring your faith in humanity through a video game kind of thing. Proving that once again, the thought-provoking, tear-jerking and ambiguously determined Hero of the Century. Could once again come back to your heart, as you slowly rinse and repeat the process of cleansing the land of Hyrule with evil.
ComedyNGaming wants to share some fun art found within the book without spoiling the rest for you all. The Zelda: Art’s & Artifacts is roughly over 400+ pages long and it does a damn fine job of showing us why this series has won the hearts of many.
Please excuse our terrible cameraman as he obviously tried his best. However, let’s get on with the art!
